Waste

The council provides limited waste removal facilities at the site, which are as follows:

GREEN WASTE BINS are for paper, cans, plastic bottles and cardboard.

BLACK WASTE BINS are for non-recyclable waste such as plastic bags, plasic netting and coffee cups.

BROWN WASTE BINS are for brambles, prunings, branches and pernicious weeds which cannot be composted on site.

Full details of what can and cannot be placed in the green, black and brown bins can be found on the Council's website:

Any other waste eg carpet, old weed control fabric, metal, glass, lumps of wood, picnic remains etc must be removed by its owner from the allotment site and recycled, either in their home bins or at the Blenheim Road refuse site (Community Recycling Centre). Please help to keep our site tidy.

Bonfires for green waste

A lot of the waste generated by gardening can be dried and burnt on a bonfire.  If lighting a bonfire please observe the council’s rules for bonfires which are posted on the gates and can be found on the Site Rules page.  We also, by convention, avoid lighting bonfires during school hours in the term time so that smoke does not interfere with Stamford Green School next door to the site.

Emptying of the bins

The rubbish lorries do not come on site to empty the bins so the bins have to be put outside the gates on the pavement on Sundays ready for collection on Monday morning. Please do help with putting the bins out and bringing them back on to the site once they have been emptied as we now have a large number of bins! The mixed recycling green bins can be put out weekly, the brown garden waste bins are put out fortnightly. The calendar showing brown bin collection weeks can be found in the noticeboard next to the gates and below:
